KYIV. On Great Kobzar’s birthday anniversary His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr donated to the National Taras Shevchenko Museum an exemplar of facsimile edition of the Peresopnytsia Gospels and several rarities from his Shevchenko collection
OnMarch 9, the 196th birthday anniversary of Taras Shevchenko the Primate of
the Ukrainian Orthodox Church called to the National Taras Shevchenko Museum
(Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, 12), to which he donated a sample of the facsimile
edition of the Peresopnytsia Gospels and 9 rare editions from his Shevchenko
collection.
Addressing
those attending, the Archpastor greeted everyone on the birthday anniversary of
the great Ukrainian artist and emphasized the significance of his personality
for our state and its people.
"Taras Shevchenko is respected not
only in Ukraine, but in Europe and all over the world. It all testifies to the
fact that the love of Great Kobzar of our nation is alive. Good
luck to our country, good luck to this museum, and may the memory of the gifted
talented people as Taras Shevchenko be carried throughout the whole life. May God send him the heavenly Kingdom, and
we'll be more attentive to his creations, where the answers to various
questions of the human concern can be found", His Beatitude noted.
In her turn, director of the museum Nataliya
Klymenko thanked the Primate of our Church for the "precious treasure of
our people" and assured that this gift would occupy a well-deserved place
in the exposition of the National
Museum. Also in the memory of the visit to the museum His Beatitude was
offered as a present the seven-volume edition of Taras Shevchenko's works.
By the way, in 1845, staying in Pereyaslav, Taras Shevchenko had a chance to get acquainted with the
Peresopnytsia Gospels, whereof he made notes in his shortwrite.
At the end, the Primate got acquainted with the materials presented in the exhibition halls.
The museum collection consists of the unique valuables:
the originals of Shevchenko's paintings, the documents of his life and creative
work, handwritten copies of his poetry, rare photographs of the poet and his
friends, first prints of Shevchenko's works with his signature, almost all the editions
of the poet's works and the literature about him, ranging from the lifetime
editions to the modern home and foreign editions. In 24 halls more than 4 thousands
of exhibits are placed.
The significant part of the exhibition materials is available for the visitors
only once a year - on the very birthday of Taras Shevchenko. Among this part of
works the special attention of Metropolitan Volodymyr was given to several
portraits written by Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko in the lesser motherland of
our Archpastor, in his native Markovtsi village.
