MOSCOW. Chairman of Synodal Information Department of the UOC Participated in Expert Seminar “Scholarly-Theological View of Modern Information Society”
The expert seminar was organized by the Synodal
Information Department of the Russian Orthodox Church. The meeting of the
church and secular specialists in the information sphere was opened by the
prayer service at the relics of the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh in the Holy
Trinity Church of St. Sergius Holy Trinity Lavra. The seminar was conducted at
the lesser assembly hall of Moscow Theological Academy.
Contributing
to the seminar were first deputy chairman of the Education Committee of the
Russian Orthodox Church
archimandrite Kirill Hovorun, vice-rector of the all-church Postgraduate and
Doctorate Study archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy, head of the DECR communication
service of the Moscow Patriarchate priest George Zavershinsky, Secretary of the
Academic Council of Moscow Theological Academy, editor-in-chief of the web-site
"Boroslov.ru" archpriest Pavel Velikanov, chairman of the Synodal Information
Department of the UOC and the pres-secretary for the UOC Primate
archpriest George Kovalenko, assistant director of the Institute of Philosophy
of the RAS Oleg Genisaretsky, chairman of the department of
Global Informational Resources of the Moscow
State University of Foreign Affairs Andrey Korotkov, chairman of the philosophy
department of the Moscow State
University of Foreign Affairs Alexy Shestopal; executive editor of the Moscow
Patriarchy Journal Sergey Chapnin, editor-in-chief of the internet-portal "Orthodoxy and the
World" Anna Danilova, the «Russian Newsweek» reviewer Ilya Arkhipov
and other. Presiding at the expert seminar was chairman of the Synodal
Informational Department of the Russian Orthodox Church Vladimir Legoyda.
The following reports
were presented for the seminar participants' discussion: "Dialogue as a way of human life" by Rev.George Zavershinsky, "Technical and
humanitarian aspects of formation o fthe glocal information society" by
A.V.Kortotkov, "Axiological Rhetoric of the Church's presence in Information
Society" by O.Henisaretsky, and "Theological Perspective of Information
Society" by archimandrite Kirill Hovorun.
In the
course of discussion archpriest George Kovalenko expressed opinion that "the
modern media of information and communication may serve as instrument of realization
of the Churc's conciliarity, as well as the domain of its missionary activity
and responsibility".
