His Eminence Archbishop of Vyshgorod Pavel was born on April, 19, 1961 in the village of Borbin, Mlynov district, Rivne region. After graduation from school he studied in Lutsk Trade College.

After his service in the Soviet Army he entered the Moscow Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1988.

On 24 May 1986 he was ordained to the Holy Diaconate, and on 7 January 1988 was ordained to the Holy Priesthood.

In 1988 he became presiding priest of the Holy Dormition Church in the village of Nizkinichi, Ivanychy district, Volyn region, one of the oldest churches in Ukraine, now the Holy Dormition Monastery.

On 26 June 1989 he was tonsured to monastic rank and was given the name Pavel (in honour of the Holy Glorious and All-Praised Leader of the Apostles Paul). In May 1992 he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite, and on 30 March 1994 he was appointed Superior of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

In 1996 he graduated from Kyiv Theological Seminary.

On 19 April 1997 was consecrated to the episcopacy with the title of Bishop of Vyshgorod, Vicar of the Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine. Later on he chaired the Commission to the Holy Synod on Monasteries of the UOC.

On 9 July 2003 he was elevated to the rank of Archbishop.

Awarded

By the Orders of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church:

- «For the Church Merits» of the 3rd degree;

- of the Holy Equal to the Apostles Prince Vladimir of the 2nd degree;

- of the Venerable Anthony and Theodosius of Pechersk of the 2nd degree;

- «Nativity of Christ - 2000»1rst and 2nd degree.

Of the Russian Orthodox Church:

- the Medal of the Most Venerable Sergius of Radonezh;

- the Order of the Most Venerable Sergius of Radonezh of the 2nd degree.

Of the other Orthodox Churches:

- the Order of St.Sava of the 2nd degree (The Serbian Orthodox Church);

- the Order of Holy Equal to the Apostles Mary Magdalene (The Orthodox Church of Poland);

- the Order of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine;

- the Order of Metropolitan Tikhon (Fund of the Holy Hierarch Tikhon).

The government orders:

The Order "For Merits" of the 3rd degree (from the President of Ukraine).

1999 - the Order "Glory for Fidelity to Motherland".

2000 - the Order "For Patriotism" of the 2nd degree; the medal "Badge of Honour of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine".

2001 - the medal "10 years of Independence of Ukraine" of the 2nd degree; the gorget "Order of Badge of Honour"; the Order "Kazak Glory" of the 2nd degree; "Cross of Honour for Development and Consolidation of Interior Forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine"; the medal of the Ministry of Defence "Valour and Honour"; the medal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine "Cross of Honour"; the medal "10 years of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine".

The medal "Badge of Honour of the International Fund of Lawyers of Ukraine".

The Order of St. Apostle Andrew the First-Called.
