KYIV. His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr Met with Head of Health Protection Department of Georgian Patriarchy

Hegumen Adam (Akhaladze) arrived to Ukraine within the framework of the activity arrangement of the newly-created Synodal Department "Mission ‘Church and Medicine" at the invitation of its Chairman, Bishop of Vasylkiv Luka.

Beside the meetings with Vladyka and the personnel of the department, the guest met with His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr at his Primate residence in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on Friday, March 7. He handed the Archpastor the gift of His Holiness Catholicos Patriarch Ilia II - the icon of the Holy Trinity.

Also hegumen Adam had an opportunity to bow unto the shrines of our land: he concelebrated during the Divine Liturgy in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, visited Chernihiv, Novgorod-Siverskyi, Glinska Hermitage, Monasteries of Hustyn and Krasnogirsk, as well as Simpheropol.

The social activity of the Georgian Orthodox Church has reached a very high level. First of all, such fruitful cooperation with the state became possible due to the signing of the Concordat - the agreement for cooperation between the Patriarchy and the state, which in facts acknowledges the Orthodoxy to be the state religion. Speaking about the medical department, apart from usual conferences and charitable actions we are used to, the Patriarchy implements large amounts of practical projects. Father Adam directly heads the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy at the Theological Academy of Tbilisi, as well as the maternity hospital of the Holy God-Ancestors Joachim and Anna; he is a professor of Tbilisi Medical University and is on board of the National Committee on Bioethics.
