Bishop of Vasylkiv Luka was born on July,
11, 1971
in the city of Khartsyzsk,
Donetsk region into the family of workers.
In 1988 he graduated from the secondary school. From 1987 he
worked a sanitary in the Central Municipal Hospital of Kharkiv. From 1989 he did his military service.
In 1992 he entered the Donetsk State Medical University named
after M.Gorky. In 2000 he did his
Master Thesis, receiving scientific grade of Master of Medicine. He wrote a
monograph dedicated to the blunt trauma of eye, and a series of scientific
medical articles.
In March, 1998 he was ordained to diaconate
by Metropolitan of Donetsk and Mariupol Hilarion, and in March, 1999 to the
holy priesthood.
From 1998 till 2002 he studied by
correspondence in the Kyiv Theological Seminary, on graduation of which he
entered the Kyiv Theological Academy. In 2006 he graduated from the KTA, having
defended candidate's thesis "Theology of Creativity in the Works of Gregory
Palamas".
From May 1999 till August 2005 he served in
the St.Michael Church of Donetsk.
December, 25, 2003
he was tonsured a monk with
the name of Luka in honour of the Holy Hierarch Luka of the Crimea in the Holy
Dormition Monastery of Svyatogorsk.
From January 2004till
August 2005 he was a head of Department of Interaction with Industrial Enterprises and
Organisations of the Donetsk Dioceses. Under his spiritual direction three churches were
erected and three premises were rebuilt into the home churches.
In May 2004 he was elevated to the rank of
archimandrite.
From September 2005 he was a clergyman of
the Poltava Diocese. He bore obedience of acting Chairman of the Department of
Religious Education, Missionary Wok and Catechization of the Holy Synod.
On November, 13, 2005 he was consecrated to
the episcopacy. He was appointed Bishop of Vasylkiv, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis,
and Superior of the Holy Nativity of the Theotokos Hermitage of Glynka.
