A series of theological consultations on the subject "Concept of Moral and Globalisation of Economy" was held between March 27-31 in Unіon Theological Seminary of New-York. The consultations were carried out under the auspices of the Committee "Faith and Church Organization" in the framework of the research project, dedicated to theological anthropology. The working group which sat in New-York comprised members of the Committee mentioned, engaged in exploring the basic challenges the Church confronts from the theological point of view, in cooperation with the World Council of Churches. On the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr Hegumen Cyril (Hovorun) represented the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at the colloquiums. The task of the working group was to outline the circle of the ethical problems the Christian community faced, and to work out the methodology for their solution. The group members agreed that the moral issues in the modern inter-Christian dialogue were as much important as the dogmatic issues. In some cases they separate the Christians even more than the dogmatic divergence does. Such issues bring about dissent between the Churches, as well as inside the Church. The study of individual cases of the complex ethical problems in the specific contexts was chosen as methodological grounds. In particular it was defined that the subjects for detailed study will be those of proselytism (in the frame of Russia and Eastern Europe), of homosexuality (in the context of the Anglican Community and a number of other Protestant Churches), of neo-liberal globalism (in the context of Global North and Global South relations) etc. The methodology and enumeration of the specific problems will be submitted for approval of the Permanent Committee of the Commission "Faith and Church Organization", whose session is to take place in June, present year, in Egypt. The issues suggested will be discussed within the framework of the sections work during the Committee plenary session, scheduled for October, 2009. On April 3 Hegumen Cyril read the lecture on the subject of primacy in the Catholic Church to the students of Villanova University (which is neat Philadelphia). He also took part in the workshop with the postgraduate students of the Theological Department of the University. The workshop was dedicated to various aspects of the Eastern Orthodox spiritual and theological tradition. | |
