Bishop of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi Alexander (in the world - Drabynko Alexander Nikolayevich), Ukrainian, was born on March 18, 1977 in Korets, Rivne region in the family of salaried workers.

In 1994 he graduated from the secondary school of I-III degrees No.3 in Korets with the distinction "Golden Medal".

In 1994 he entered the Moscow Theological Seminary in the city of Sergiyev-Posad, Moscow region, from which he graduated with senior grade in 1988.

From 1998 till 2002 he studied in the Kyiv Theological Academy, on graduation from which he defended the thesis "Orthodoxy in Post-Totalitarian Ukraine (landmarks of history)". For the given research paper he was awarded the degree of a candidate of Theology.

From 1998 - administrative assistant of His Beatitude Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

On May 20, 2004, on the feast of Holy Ascension of Christ, in the Church of St.Mary Magdalene in Tiberias (the Holy Land) at the Divine Liturgy he was ordained to the holy diaconate by His Beatitude Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

From February, 2003 till November, 2005 he was engaged as co-author and director of the joint project of TBC "Era" and the Chief Editorial Board of Informational Programmes of the UOC "Pravoslavnyi Mir" (Orthodox World).

July 1, 2006 by the order No.936-1 for the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC he was appointed personal assistant to the Primate of the UOC.

From August 1, 2006 - Editor in Chief of the official web site of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (orthodox.org.ua) and editorial director of the official all-church print edition Tserkovna /Pravoslavna/ Hazeta" ("Church /Orthodox/ Newspaper").

On July 28, 2006 on the commemoration day of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Great Prince Volodymyr he was ordained priest by His Beatitude Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, and was bestowed on with epigonation (nabedrennik), kamilavka and golden pectoral cross.

On August 20, 2006 he was tonsured a monk with the name Alexander after the Venerable Alexander of Svir by His Beatitude Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine in the St.Panteleimon Monastery on the Holy Mount Athos.

On August 28, 2006, on the feast of the Holy Dormition of the Theotokos, in the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra he was elevated to the rank of hegumen by the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with imposition of the decorated cross.

On September 24, 2006 on the day of the Zimne Icon of the Mother of God he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite by His Beatitude Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

January 7, 2007 on the occasion of the feast of Nativity of Christ he was awarded with the second decorated cross.
