On June 25, the second
work day of the Bishops' Council at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, the sessions of
the working groups started, where the hierarchs of the Moscow Patriarchate from
all over the world will discuss topical questions of ecclesiastic life.
In accordance with the regulations of the Council passed yesterday, the activity of the workgroups was
divided into five trends:
1) functioning of the
parishes and monasteries,
2) Church, state and
society, 3) theological education and
educational activity of the Church, 4) work with the youth, publication and informational activity of the
Church and 5) Orthodox testimony and modernity.
Executive Administrator of the UOC Archbishop of Bila
Tserkva and Boguslav Mytrofan
heads the working group "Church, State and Society". The participants of this session discuss the
questions of relations of the Church and the government agencies and social
institutes, cooperation with the Army, the Ministry of the Interior and
penitentiary system. In the course of session the legal aspects of
the activity of the Church are to be considered, therefore the lawyer of the
Moscow Patriarchate K.A.Chernega takes part in this session.
Rector of the Kyiv
Theological Academy
and Seminary Bishop Anthony
of Boryspil, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis is one of the curators of the working
group "Theological Education and Educational Activity of the Church" where the
problems of catechization are also on the agenda.
Archbishop of Poltava
and Myrhorod
Philip, Head of the Synodal
Department of the UOC heads the group "Work with the youth, publication and
Information Activity of the Church". This working group also discusses the problems
of interaction of the Church and secular mass-media.
Metropolitan of Bukovyna and Chernivtsi
Onuphriy takes part in the work of
the group "Orthodox Testimony and Modernity" where, in particular the subjects of globalization, secularism,
missionary service and church unity are discussed. The participants of this
working group were considering the theological and canonical analysis of
sayings of Bishop of Anadyr and Chukotka
Diomede. The report on this
subject was made by Chairman of Synodal Theological Commission of the Moscow
Patriarchate Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Philaret.
Archbishop Ionafan
of Tulchin and Bratslav and Archbishop Sophrony of Cherkassy and Kaniv take part in the work of
the group "Parish and Monastery Activity".
