In the
Museum Department of the Cathedral of Holy Dormition in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
the exhibition dedicated to 900 years of the Trinity Gate-Church has been
opened lately. At the exposition there
are icons, liturgical appliances and church plate of the Trinity Church.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr blessed opening of the exhibition by the
words of the Holy Scripture: "Holiness
becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever" (Psalms 93, 5). As Archpastor noted, "These words of
prayerful excitement of the Holy Psalmsinger King David come from heart and lips by themselves on the day of the holy
and eminent feast: 900 years ago one of the oldest churches in the Holy
Rus - the Gate-Church of the Holy
Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, dedicated to the Holy Trinity had been completed
and sanctified.
The Most Blessed Vladyka reminded of the feast of the Holy Trinity: "After
fifty days of the Easter joy, a summer Sunday the churches and the houses of
the faithful are decorated by the
branches of the trees,
filling the air with spicy and dense odour. The Feast of the Pentecost, so
much beloved by our people is also named by the Day of the Holy Trinity, since on
that very day the action of the Holy Trinity - of its Three Hypostases manifested
itself to the world, and people learned to glorify and worship the Three Images
of One Godhead. Built in the 12th century at the cost of a monk of
the Kyiv Caves,
the Venerable Nicolas Sviatosha, descendant of the family of princes of
Chernihiv and decorated in the XVII by magnificent Barocco décor, this temple even at present sheds its graceful gifts,
imparted by our holy faith and our Holy
Church. There the grace
of Triune God really dwells, and each person coming under its domes with faith
and God's fear has a possibility to comprehend Him. Generations change one another, and the Gate Church
of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra reflects eternity and immovability of the Church,
remaining the unfailing source of the grace.
