ATHENS-KYIV. Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church Arrived to Ukraine


 

On Thursday, July 24, the delegation of the Greek orthodox Church arrived to Ukraine, headed by its Primate His Beatitude Hieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece. The delegation consists of Metropolitan Dionyssios of Hios, Psara and Oinoussai, Metropolitan Meletios of Nikopolis and Preveza, Archimandrite Kirillos Misiakoulis, Archimandrite Prokopios Petridis and Archimandrite Timotheos (Anfi).

At ‘Boryspil' airport the guests were met by the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church His Beatitude Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, Metropolitan Lazar of Crimea and Simferopol, Bishop of Boryspil Anthony and Bishop Alexander of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi, official of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC priest Mykolai Danylevych and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Archbishop Hieronymos greeted His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr and said it was very nice to meet in the Ukrainian land.

The delegation of the Greek Church will stay in Ukraine till July 29 and will take part in all the events planned together with His Beatitude Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, including the festivities of July 26 in the Sophia square, the divine service on July, 27 at Volodymyrska Gorka and the divine service on July, 28 in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

Archbishop Hieronymos and the Greek Church delegation members stayed at the hotel "National" in the Kyiv region of Lypky.

It is known that the Primate of the Church of Greece honours the Holy Hierarch Luke (Voino-Yasenetskyi) of the Crimea. Before his election to the see of Athens His Beatitude Hieronymos headed the Metropolis of Thebes and Levadeia, where the orthodox youth camps are located, receiving thousands of children from the Crimea each year.
