Bishop Ilariy was born on April, 18, 1969 in Mykolayiv in the family of believers. On June, 9, 1969 he was baptized in the Church of All Saints with the name of John.

In 1976 he entered the secondary school No. 14 of Mykolayiv. In 1980, after moving to Bryanka, Luhansk region, he went to school No.10 from which he graduated in six years. He pursued his studies in the Technical College No. 18, from which he graduated with distinction in July, 1987.

From July, 1987 till June, 1988 he worked on Lenin geological survey expedition as driller's assistant.

On June 19, 1988 he was called up to the military service. He spent the term of service in Saratov. Relegated to the reserve on May, 29, 1990.

In 1990 he entered the Kyiv Theological Seminary. In 1993 he graduated with distinction and entered the Kyiv Theological Academy, from which in 1997 he also graduated with distinction.

Since 1996 - the teacher of the Kyiv Theological Seminary. On March, 18, 1999 he successfully defended the candidate's thesis "Religious and Aesthetic Views in the Ancient Russia in the Pre-Synodal Period" and received the scientific degree of the Candidate of Theology.

In 1999 he was appointed teacher of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, of the following theological disciplines: «Moral Theology», «Church Slavonic language», «Religious Ethics» and «Orthodox Ecclesiology».

Since 1999 - member of the Academic Council of the Kyiv Theological Academy and executive secretary of "Works of the Kyiv Theological Academy".

Ordained to the holy priesthood in 2000.

In August, 2000 he was appointed head of the publishing department of the Kyiv Metropolis.

In 2001 on the day of Holy Easter with the blessing of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Volodymyr he was elevated to the rank of hegumen.

From 2002 he read a course of "Bases of Christian Morals" and headed the chair of Theology established on the basis of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijan Institute of Social Sciences and the International Relations of G.A.Aliev in the International Academy of the Human Resources Management .

Since March, 2003 - member of the permanent Ethics Commission at the State Centre of Immunobiological Drugs.

On November, 21 with the blessing of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Volodymyr he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite.

On January 28, 2005 he was appointed Secretary of the Academic Council of KTA&S, on March 30, 2007 - appointed Vice-Rector of KTA&S. On June 10, 2007 by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and with the blessing of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Volodymyr he was appointed secretary of the Educational Committee to the Holy Synod of the UOC.

On July, 29th, 2007 he was ordained Bishop of Severodonetsk and Starobelsk by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Volodymyr.

The ceremony of consecration to episcopacy of Vladyka Ilariy took place on July 29, 2007 in the Refectory Church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
