Bishop of Horlivka and Slovyansk Mytrofan
was born on October 31, 1976 in the city of Voroshilovograd (now Luhansk) in the
family of workers.
From 1982 till 1991 he studied in
the secondary school. From 1990 he bore obedience of subdean at the Ss.Peter and Paul Cathedral of Luhansk.
In 1991 he entered the monastic
community of the Kursk Root Icon of the Holy Nativity of the Theotokos
Hermitage of the Kursk Diocese as novice. He bore obedience of altar warden, senior choir singer, worked in the monastery husbandry.
In 1994, with the blessing of the spiritual
father, he was transferred to the recently reopened Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Monastery
(Lavra) of the Donetsk Diocese. Since November, 1994 he bore obedience of subdean and driver to Bishop of Horlivka
and Slovyansk Alipiy.
On November 21, 1994 he was ordained deacon by the Right
Reverend Alipiy. On
December 23, 1994 in the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra he was tonsured a
monk with name Mytrofan after the Holy Hierarch Mytrofan, Bishop of Voronezh. In
the rank of hierodeacon he kept his former obedience of driver and subdeacon
On May 18, 1997 he was ordained to
the holy priesthood in the rank of hieromonk.
On October 20, 1997 he was sent to
perform his pastoral service to St. Michael church of Mariupol by His Eminence Hilarion Archbishop of Donetsk
and Mariupol, administrator of the Diocese of Horlivka. By the decree of July 23,
1999 he was appointed presiding priest of the newly established parish in
honour of the Holy Equal to the Apostles Prince Vladimir, Mariupol.
From April 12, 2000 - was presiding
priest of the St.Vladimir Church of Mariupol, from August, 1 of the same year -
of the Holy Nativity of Christ Church of Donetsk.
Throughout 1996-2000 he studied in
the Kyiv Theological Seminary and from 2001 till 2005 - in the Kyiv Theological
Academy.
From 2004 he bore obedience of spiritual
director and teacher of the New Testament of the department of spiritual
culture at the Donetsk National University. By the decree of February 8, 2006
he was appointed presiding priest of the newly created parish in honour of Holy
Passion-Bearers Boris and Gleb at the University.
By the decision of the Holy Synod of
the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of January 24, 2007 he was ordained bishop and
appointed to chair the Horlivka cathedra.
Bishop ordination took place on January, 28, 2007 in the Refectory Church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. | |
