On Friday, January 11, Primate
of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in course of his stay in the Western Ukraine served the Divine Liturgy in the
Holy Dormition Stauropegial Svyatogirsk Convent of Zimne in Volyn. Superior of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Archbishop of Vyshgorod Pavel and the administrator of the diocese Bishop of Volodymyr-Volynskyi and Kovel Nycodym
concelebrated with His Beatitude.
This day pupils of the
cantor class, opened by the efforts of monastery and kept now at the secondary
school of the city, visited the abode. The pupils and teachers sang Christmas carols to the Most Blessed
Vladyka, afterwards they got the icons of Nativity and sweets from hands of the
Primate.
In the evening of the same
day His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr visited the Diocese of Volodymyr-Volynskyi where he met the ruling bishop - His
Grace Nycodym, and also blessed the faithful who met the Archpastor, by the
icons of Nativity of Christ. The Svyatogirsk Monastery became a shrine for our ancestors - the centre of
enlightenment, of preparation of the pastors of the church, organisations of schools, and shelters for sick
and homeless.
The Reference of orthodox.org.ua. In 1001 by the order of Prince Vladimir the first wooden churches of
the Holy Mountain in the village of Zimne were constructed and already in 1006 he gave the family wonderworking
icon of the Mother of God for the consecration of the temple.
In 1018 the Venerable Moses the Hungarian stayed here. Coming back from Constantinople in
1073 Hegumen of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra the Venerable Varlaam reposed in the
Lord.
The 18th century became a period of great ordeals for the monastery and monks. For example in 1724 in the Holy Dormition Church all the baths were demolished and all the property was ransacked.
On September 6, 1990 Bishop
of Lutsk Varfolomiy consecrated the cemetery and the walls of the Zimne
Convent. On September 24, 1995 in course of celebrations of the 500 year anniversary of the Holy Dormition Convent the
wonderworking Zimne Icon of the Mother of God was returned to the restored
convent.
May 3, 1996 the Holy Synod of the UOC gave the Monastery the
status of stauropegia.
The greatness of the Zimne Convent lies in its spiritual influence. The
churches of the convent are the strongholds of the Orthodox faith, witnesses of
the truth of Christ where the sincere and ardent prayer to God lasts without
cease.
