Archbishop of Izyum Onuphriy was born on March 27, 1970in the city of Khodorov Zhydachiv district of the Lviv region in the family of priest.

He graduated from the secondary school in 1987. At the same time he studied in the musical school in the piano class; in 1986 he completed 7 years of studies.

From 1987 till 1989 he worked in the Lviv diocesan administration in the capacity of the freight forwarder. In October 1989 he moved to work in the Kharkiv diocesan administration in the same capacity.

August 28, 1990 he was ordained deacon by Metropolitan of Kharkiv and Bogodukhiv Nycodym with appointment as clergyman of the Kharkiv Holy Anunciation Cathedral. On October 4, 1992 - ordained priest by Metropolitan of Kharkiv and Bogodukhiv Nycodym.

In 1993 he graduated from the Odesa Theological Seminary, and in 1998 - from the Kyiv Theological Academy. The same year he was elevated to the rank of protopresbyter. In 1997 he was appointed rector of the St.Sergius community of Kharkiv, where he started the construction of the temple.

On April 17, 2000 by the decree of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church the Izyum vicariate was established.

On April 20, 2000 in the Near Caves of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in the church of the Venerable Anthony of Caves protopresbyter Oleg Legkyi was tonsured monk with the name Onuphriy after the Hieromartyr Onuphrius (Gagalyuk).

On April 21, 2000 elevated to the rank of archimandrite and nominated Bishop pf Izyum.

Next day, April 22, on Saturday of Lazar in the Refectory Church of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in course of the Divine Liturgy he was consecrated to episcopacy.

On September 18, 2003 - appointed Deputy Abbot of the Holy Protection Monastery of Kharkiv.

On May, 27, 2007 n course of celebrations on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Kharkiv Council of Bishops he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite.

Scientific Works:

Master thesis on subject: "The Diocese of Kharkiv (1850-1992 рр.). Historical and canonical investigation". Defended it the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw.

Awarded

Church Orders :
1999 -of the Holy Equal to the Apostles Great Prince Vladimir of the 3rd degree on the occasion of 200-ліття Харківської єпархії.

2000 - «Nativity of Christ - 2000» of the 1st degree; of the Venerable Nestor the Chronicler of the 1st degree.

2001 - of St. Sergius of Radonezh of the 2nd degree (Russian Orthodox Church); of the Holy Equal to the Apostles Great Prince Vladimir of the 2nd degree.

2002 - of the Holy Equal to the Apostles Mary Magdalene of the 2nd degree (the Orthodox Church of Poland).

2004 - of the Holy and Right-Believing Prince Daniel of Moscow of the 3rd degree.

Public and state awards:

1999 - distinction of the President of Ukraine, the Order «For Merits» of the 3rd degree; Certificate of Merit of the Kharkiv Regional State Adminisatrtion.

2000 - certificate of appreciation of the Kharkiv Regional State Adminisatrtion.

2001 - the Medal "10 years of Independence of Ukraine"; Marshall Zhukov Medal; Certificate of Merit of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

2003 - the Order "For Merits" of the 1st degree of the Fire Protection Academy.

2004 - badge of honor of the Head of the Kharkiv Regional State Adminisatrtion "Slobozhanska Slava".

2006 - the Order "For Faith and Fidelity" (Russain Federation); the Order of Peter the Great of the 2nd degree (Russain Federation).

2006 was awarded the title of Academician of the Academy of Security, Protection and Order of the Russian Federation, the title of Academician of the International Academy of Staff Management.
