The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine -
 

CONSIDERED the report of the Administrator of the UOC, His Eminence Metrophanes, Archbishop of Bila Tserkva and Bohuslav on celebration of the Jubilee -the 75th anniversary of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymytr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, which took place in Kyiv on November 22-23, 2010.
 

Background: On November 22-23 in Kyiv the celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, were held. Representatives of all the Local Orthodox Churches, His Beatitude Archbishop Christophoros Metropolitan of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia arrived to take part in the festivities.


On November 22 at the National Opera of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko a solemn Academy and a festive concert were held on the occasion of the jubilee. Greeting the hero of the day at the solemn Academy were His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine V.Lytvyn and His Eminence Agathangel, Metropolitan of Odessa and Izmayil on behalf of the Holy Synod of the UOC.


His Holiness Patriarch Kirill conferred on the Primate of the UOC the Order of Honor and Glory of the 1st degree.


Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn delivered to Metropolitan Volodymyr the distinction of the Verkhovna Rada "For special services to the Ukrainian nation". On behalf of the Holy Synod of the UOC Metropolitan Agathamgel delivered to His Beatitude Volodymyr the order of the UOC of the Holy Apostle Andrew the First Called.
On November 23 at the church of Sts Anthony and Theodosius of the Kyiv Caves the Divine Liturgy was celebrated, presided over by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. Praying at the Divine Liturgy was President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych, who greeted His Beatitude on the anniversary and conferred on him the state distinction - the Order of Freedom. Upon completion of the Divine Liturgy the solemn reception was held, where the greetings by the primates of the Local Orthodox Churches and representatives of the state authorities were read. On the same day His Holiness Patriarch Kirill left for Moscow.

RESOLVED:


1. To take the information into account.;
2. To thank His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Beatitude Archbishop of Prague, Metropolitan Chistopher of the Czech Lands and Slovakia for his personal participation in the festivities;
3. To thank the Primates of the Local Orthodox Churches for participation of the delegations in the celebrations;
4. To send letters of gratitude to president of Ukraine victor Yanukovych, Prime-Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration O.P.Popov, Minister of the Internal Affairs A.V. Mohyliov for support and assistance in organization of the arrangements.
 

5. To thank the Synodal Jubilee Commission for the work done.
6. To raise gratitude to God, Who sent and is sending mercy and His assistance to His Beatitude, the Most Blessed Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine -


CONSIDERED the information of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine on the visit to Ukraine of the Wonderworking icon of the Mother of God "Glykophilousa" (from November 22 through December 6, 2010).
 

Background: At the request of His Beatitude, the Most Blessed Volodymyr, metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia blessed bringing to Ukraine of the Wonderworking icon of the Mother of God "Glykophilousa", unto which St Seraphim of Sarov prayed and reposed in the Lord. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill personally accompanied the holy icon from Moscow to Kyiv. From November 22 through 24 the icon stayed at the Holy Dormition Kyiv Caves Monastery, and from November 24 through December 1 - at the Church of All Saints in the construction site of the Resurrection Cathedral of Kyiv, on December 2-4- in Bila Tserkvaand on December 4-6 at the Holy Protection Convent of Kyiv.
 

RESOLVED:


1. To take the information into account;
2. To extend gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill for the blessing granted to bring the wonderworking icon of the Mother of God "Glykophilousa" to Ukraine;
3. To raise gratitude to Our All-Merciful Lord Jesusu Christ and His Most Blessed Mother Mary for the mercy to our country, manifested in the possibility of visit of the Wonderworking Icon of the Mother of God "Glykophilousa" to Ukraine.

CONSIDERED the information of His Beatitude Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine on the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of St Sophia of Kyiv, the historical cathedral of the Metropolitans of Kyiv.
 

Background: In 2011, in compliance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine the 1000th anniversary of the cathedral of St Sophia in Kyiv, founded by the Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir, and built by the great Kyivan Prince Yaroslav the Wise will be celebrated.


Director general of the National Reserve St Sophia of Kyiv N.M.Kukovalska sent a letter to His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr (letter 476/01-19 of November 5, 2010), in which she asked to assist in solving the problem of return to Ukraine of the shrines, which previously had been kept in the Cathedral: the icon of the Holy Hierarch Nicholas the Wonderworker and the honorable relics of the Holy Prince Yaroslav the Wise, which are now in New-York (USA), according to the available data.
 

RESOLVED:


1. To take the information into account.
2. To support the initiative of the administration of the National Reserve St Sophia of Kyiv on return to Ukraine of the national shrines - the Icon of the Holy Hierarch Nicholas and the honorable relics of the Holy Prince Yaroslav the Wise.
3. To address to President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych and Prime Minister of Ukraine M.Ya. Azarov with a request to grant state significance to this issue and to facilitate its resolution in all possible ways.
 

4.To set up a respective commission:
1) His Eminence Alexander, Archbishop of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyy, deputy chair of the Department for external Church Relations of the UOC - the commission's chair;
2) Hegumeness Seraphima (Shevchuk), chairwoman of the Mission Church and Culture - the deputy chair;
3) Archpriest George Kovalneko, chair of the Information department of the UOC;
4) Hegumen Arkadii Demchenko, co-worker of the Kyiv Metropolis;
5) Bohutskyy Yuri Petrovych, chair of the state Committee for Nationalities and Religion of Ukraine.

6) Reshetnikov Yuri Yevhenovych (on agreement);
7) Gromova Marina Eduardivna, Director general of the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical Reserve (on agreement);
8) Kukovalska Nelya Mykhailivna, Director general of the National Reserve St Sophia of Kyiv (on agreement);
9) Bureha Volodymyr, assistant professor of the Kyiv Theological Academy.


5. The commission is to elaborate and present the schedule of events related to celebration of the 1000th anniversary of St Sophia Cathedral for the next session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine -


CONSIDERED celebration in 2011 of the 450th anniversary of writing of the Peresopnytsia Gospels.


Background: in 2008 on the occasion of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus the Ukrainian Orthodox Church initiated and carried out the facsimile edition of the Peresopnytsia Gospels.
The presentation of the facsimile edition of the Peresopnytsia Gospels were held in a number of the countries, i.e. in Great Britain, Canada, USA, Izrael, Poland, Spain. The donations received from realization of the edition of Peresopnytsia Gospels are spent for the construction of the Cathedral of Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv.

 

RESOLVED:


1. To raise gratitude to All-merciful God for successful execution of the project of facsimile edition of the Peresopnytsia Gospels;
2. To entrust the Synodal Department "Mission Church and Culture" of the UOC to prepare the plan of arrangements relating to celebrations of the jubilee of the Peresopnytsia Gospels in Kyiv in 2011.

1. To bless introduction in the Diocese of Kyiv of the local celebration in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God "The Hearing".
2. To perform commemoration of the icon of the Mother of God "The Hearing" on September 22/October 5.

CONSIDERED the report of His Eminence Ioann, Archbishop of Kherson and Tavriya, chair of the commission for canonization of the saints, on glorification of hegumen Vonifatiy (+27. 12. 1871 old calendar) among the locally venerated saints of the Diocese of Kyiv.
 

Having considered the works, feats and wonders and taking into account the people's veneration of hegumen Vonifatiy (Vynohradskyy) -
 

RESOLVED:


1. To bless local veneration and glorification of hegumen Vonifatiy (Vynohradskyy).
2. To approve iconic image of the Venerable Vonifatiy of Kyiv.
3. To remember the venerable Vonifatiy of Kyiv on December 27/January 9.
4. To raise gratitude to All-merciful God, wondrous in His saints, that he revealed to us a new man of prayer for our Holy Church and our people.

CONSIDERED the report the report of His Eminence Ioann, Archbishop of Kherson and Tavriya, chair of the commission for canonization of the saints, on glorification of nun Eutropia (Isaenkova), the ascetic of piety, among the locally venerated saints (+29 березня 1868).

RESOLVED:



1. To bless local veneration and glorification of nun Eutropia (Isaenkova).
2. To approve iconic image of the saint.
3. To approve the draft troparion and kontakion to the Venerable nun Eutropia of Kherson presented.
4. To consider the remains of the Venerable nun Eutropia the holy relics.
5. To commemorate the Venerable Eutropia on October 30 /November 12 on the day of invention of the relics.
6. To raise gratitude to All-merciful God, wonderful in His saints that He revealed us anew woman of prayerfor Our Holy Church and nation.

The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine- -


CONSIDERED the information of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine on including into the calendar of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the name of the Holy Confessor Dositheus (Vasych), Metropolitan of Zagreb and Liublin, glorified among the saints by the council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church on May 22, 1998.


Background:
The future Holy Hierarch was born in Belgrad in 1878.
From 1900 till 1904 he studied in the Kyiv Theological Academy. In 1913 he was ordained a bishop. In August 1922 together with the Venerable Alexy (Kabaliuk) he set up the diocesan council in Transcarpathians. St Dositheus died in Belbgad on January 13, 1945.


RESOLVED:


1. To bless including the name of the Holy Confessor Dositheus (Vasych), Metropolitan of Zagreb and Liublin into the liturgical calendar of the UOC;
2. To include the name of the Holy Confessor Dositheus into the synaxis of the Carpathian-Russian saints;
3. To commemorate the holy Confessor Dositheus (Vasych), Metropolitan of Zagreb and Liublin on December 31/January 13.

CONSIDERED: the information of his Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine on the course of construction of the Resurrection Cathedral and the religious enlightenment center of the UOC.

 

RESOLVED:


1. To take the information into account..
2. To thank God and raise prayers for all the sponsors and alms-givers of the construction. To draw attention of the diocesan bishops on the necessity of active participation in All-Ukraine fund-raising for the construction of the cathedral and the religious education center of the UOC. 4. To set up Supervisory Council of the construction of the Resurrection cathedral and to invite to participation in the Supervisory council the state and public leaders, who constantly take care and render assistance to the construction. The staff of the Supervisory council to be approved by the Decree of the UOC Primate.

2. To perform the nomination and consecration of archimandrite Nykodym Baranovskyy as Bishop of Rokytne, Vicar of the Diocese of Bila Tserkva in Kyiv, and to send a respective decree thereof.

RESOLVED:


1. Archimandrite Filaret (Kucherov), a clergyman of the Kyiv Diocese to be the Bishop of Drohobych, Vicar of the Diocese of Kyiv.
2. To perform the nomination and consecration of archimandrite Filaret Kucherov as Bishop of Drohobych, Vicar of the Diocese of Lviv in Kyiv, and to sent a respective decree thereof.

The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine -


CONSIDERED on the situation in the Diocese of Zaporizhzhia.
 

RESOLVED:


1. To dismiss His Grace Joseph (Maslennikov), Bishopof Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol, from administration of the Diocese of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol;
2. To appoint His Eminence Luke (Kovalenko) the ruling bishop of the Diocese of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol, removing him from administration of the diocese of Konotop and from the office of deputy abbot of the Stauropegial Hermitage of the Nativity of the Mother of god in Hlynka.
3. To appoint His Grace Joseph (Maslennikov) to the office of the ruling bishop of the Dioceses of Konotop and Hlukhiv;
4. To appoint archimandrite Anthony (Kripak) temporary head of the Stauropegial Hermitage of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Hlynka.

To send respective decrees thereof.

The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine- -


CONSIDERED on the division of the Diocese of Kryvyy Rih into two autonomous dioceses.


RESOLVED:



1. To create the Diocese of Dniprodzerzhynsk, singling it out of the composition of the Diocese of KryvyyRih;
2. To assign to the Diocese of Dniprodzerzhynsk the following administrative units of the Dnipropetrovsk region: Verkhniodniprovskyy region, Dniprodzerzhynsk city, Krynychanskyy region, Mahdalynivskyy region, Petrykivskyy region, Solonianskyy region, Tsarychanskyy region.

3. The following regions remain in the Diocese of Kryvyy Rih: Apostolivskyy region, Zhovti Vody ttown, Kryvyy Rih city, Marganets towqn, Nikopol region, Pyatykhatky region, Sofiyivskyy region, Tomakivskyy region, Shyrokivskyy region;
4. To single out from the composition of the Diocese of Dnipropetrovsk the following regions: Mahdalynivskyy region, Petrykivskyy region, Tsarychanskyy region, and to include them into the composition of the Diocese of Dnipreodzerzhynsk

5. To retain the "of Kryvyy Rih and Nikopol" for the ruling bishop of the Diocese of Kryvyy Rih;
6. To title the ruling bishop of the Diocese of Dniprodzerzhynsk "of Dniprodzerzhynsk and Tsarychansk";
7. To appoint His Grace Volodymyr (Orachov), Bishop of Rovenky, Vicar of the Diocese of Luhansk to the office of ruling bishop of the Diocerse of Dniprodzerzhynsk, after dismissing him from the post of Vicar Bihop of the Diocese of Luhansk.

To send respective decrees thereof.

 


JOURNAL 49
 

The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine- -


CONSIDERED the proposal of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine on setting up vicariates of the Diocese of Kyiv.
 

RESOLVED:


1. To bless establishment of the following vicariates:
1) of Brovary (districts of Ivankiv, Brovary and Vyshgorod);
2) of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyy (districts of Vasylkiv, Obukhiv, Boryspil and pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyy);
3) of Makariv (districts of Makariv, Svytoshyn of Kyiv, Fastiv and Borodiany);
4) of Yahotyn (districts of Zhuriv, Yahotyn, Baryshiv).

 

2. To entrust administering the vicariates on the following bishops:
1) of Brovary - on His Grace Feodosiy, Bishop of Brovary, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis;
2) of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyy - on His Grace Panteleimon, Bishop of Vasylkiv, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis;
3) of Makariv - on His Grace Ilariy, Bishop of Makariv, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis;

4) of Yahotyn - on His Grace Serahim, Bishop of Yahotyn, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis.
3. The deans of the Kyiv Diocese are to assist by all means to organizing the administration of vicariates and to provide assistance to the Bishops in solution of the administrative dosciplinal issues.

The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine -


CONSIDERED further work of several departments of the UOC.
 

RESOLVED:


1. To dismiss His Eminence Anthony, Archbishop of Boryspil, Vicar of the Kyiv metropolis from the office of chairman of the Theological Canonical Committee to the Holy Synod of the UOC, extending him gratitude for the work done;
2. To appoint chairman of the Theological Canonical Commission to the Holy Synod of the UOC His Eminence Gurias, Archbishop of Zhytomyr and Novohrad-Volynskyy, having dismissed him from the office of chairman of the Synodal Department for Youth Matters, expressing gratitude for the work fulfilled;
3. To appoint archimandrite Jonah (Cherepanov), deputy abbot of the Holy Trinity St Jonah Monastery of Kyiv to the office of chairman of the Synodal Department for Youth Matters.

CONSIDERED the report of His Grace Ilariy, Bishop of Makariv, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis, chairman of the Synodal Department for Religious Education and Catechization of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on establishment of the Committee for Bioethics and Moral Issues to the Holy Synod of the UOC.
 

RESOLVED:


1. To bless establishment of the Committee for Bioethics and Moral Issues to the Holy Synod of the UOC;
2. To appoint His Grace Ilariy, Bishop of Makariv, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis, to the office of the chairman of the Committee for Bioethics and Moral Issues to the Holy Synod of the UOC.

The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine -


CONSIDERED the report of His Eminence Ioannikiy, Metropolitan of Luhansk and Alchevsk on opening of Luhansk Theological University in honor of the Holy Archangel Michael in Luhansk on the basis of the theological school.
 

RESOLVED:


1. To bless opening of Luhansk Theological University in honor of the Holy Archangel Michael in Luhansk on the basis of the theological school;
2. To entrust the Education Committee to the Holy Synod of the UOC to elaborate the program of study together with the Legal Department of the Kyiv Metropolis and to prepare Statute documents of Luhansk St Michael the Archangel Theological University.

The session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine- -


CONSIDERED the information of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine on numerous appeals by the faithful of the UOC sent to the Chancery of the Kyiv Metropolis, expressing anxiety concerning the adoption of the new Tax Code by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
 

RESOLVED:


1. To take the information into account.
2. To entrust the Theological Canonical Commission to study from theological point of view the provisions of the Taxation Code concerning the mechanism of accounting of physical persons taxpayers and the arguments of the faithful who refuse from accepting the registration number of the record card of the taxpayer due to religious convictions;
3. The representative office of the UOC to the Verkhovna Rada should elaborate proposals concerning protection of the rights of believers and on solving disputable questions.
